The World Remembers September 11th
(9/11/2002) There is no one way about it. Find out how many Internet sites are helping to remember the anniversary of the day that changed the world.

By design, this website tends not to talk about any national holidays. We're not too keen on making Christmas designs, because not all countries celebrate that holiday. We're not even that big on Labor Day either; many of V Planet's September updates tend to come fairly close, if not directly on top of, this day when everybody is supposed to take a day off.

That said, many websites have come up with their own ways of remembering September 11th, the day that brought a nation together. One year after the World Trade Center attack, http://www.worldtradecenter.com/has now changed it's home page to a "Spirit of Freedom" tribute, providing a pictorial recollection of the tragedy through the eyes of the city and it's people.

Charities are also working for the cause. The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001 has been set up by the U.S. government to help provide special funds to the September 11th victims. Other charities helping out to the September 11th cause include the New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund, the New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund, and www.redcross.org.

Yahoo.comhas compiled a special website dedicated in memory to the heroes, individuals, and memories of September 11th, along with a place for people to make online memorial tiles to help send a message of hope and peace.

Even videogame-related sites, like planetgamecube.com, have closed most of their news coverage for the day, saying that "Planet GameCube has only stopped its coverage once, which was one year ago today. Even though Planet GameCube is a United States-based company, this event affected our worldwide audience. We personally felt it was important enough to warrant the lack of coverage for the day in remembrance of the lives that were and are currently lost every day in the fight against terrorism."

As one year begins to pass since this day of heroes and tragedy, there is no one way to send condolences for this anniversary. There are many ways to pay tribute to the memory of lives lost. Personally, it was all about waking up and being thankful to be alive. We at the staff encourage everyone to find their own way of remembering the event, and to be with their loved ones during this day. We all have our memories of September 11th, and there's no better way to show the strength of a nation than to continue to live.
