But after a lackluster effort in 2003 Editor Vance Velez announces it's time for some new leadership and help put V Planet in the right direction again.
Ever since 2002, there have been many internal problems with V Planet's site design. I scoffed at trying to change the site into a friendlier, more workable php format. I was also one of the major forces that delayed helping make V Planet easier to update for all staff members, trying to manage the html version of the site instead of cooperating more fully so that V Planet could make a full transition to the php format. It was stubbornness and stupidity in my part, and now that it's 2004 the hill has turned into a mountain of a problem. My ability to write stringent game reviews has also gone down substantially. To put things into perspective, back in the days it wasn't out of the ordinary for V Planet to update every one to two weeks with two new game reviews. Nowadays, my writing skills have dwindled so badly from perplex combination of brain fart and simply from reviewing too many games that it takes me about two months now to get a single game review done. That's not going to cut it when trying to catch up with all the innovations happening in the QB world, and to provide a helpful service for an entire programming community. And trying to pull things as an Editor will not help either. Inspired by the wave of change going on in the world (the 2004 Elections, the path of democracy in Iraq, Chris Benoit winning Wrestlemania XX, take your pick), I believe that the best thing that could possibly happen to V Planet, it's staff, and the QB community is for me to relinquish my position and help begin a smooth transition from one captain to another, to help rebuild V Planet into a site where every person who wants to help can help, and every programmer who wants a QB game can get their games reviewed again. Consequently, this opens up a new position for Editor and for game reviewers. Although there are top candidates for the Editor position I would love to ask (a.k.a. beg) to take my place, those interested in applying for either position can send resumes through the V Planet e-mail address. I still wish to work on V Planet as a managing editor (or at least a contributing writer), mainly to write news articles, conduct interviews, program QB games, and to help manage the site and organize QB-related events. I'll probably still review QB games at a more casual pace. But as for functioning primarily to write QB game reviews and making the big decisions when it comes to the future of this site, I've all but outlived my usefulness. It's time to bring in some fresh blood and leadership to get this well-oiled machine running again. Vance Velez Editor, V Planet! QuickBasic Magazine |
