GBGames,
QB45.com, and Darkness Ethereal Regroup
(5/13/2002) We're not the only QB site
trying to put ourselves back together. Find out what other havoc is taking
place in the scene.
A newly designed QB45.com greets visitors with a "Welcome to The
New Q-Munity."
QB45.com
The QB community's most popular website,
QB45.com,
went under a massive revamp under TrueTech. Changes to the site
include an event calendar, account sign-up, and reinstallation of the website's
massive QB backups. The new layout also appears to have much better integration
of QB45.com's various site areas, including areas for C/C++ and other
programming languages.
QB
Cult Magazine
After months of absence, QB Cult Magazine
starts a new volume of QB programming articles under the care of it's third
Editor, Mikael Andersson (Sane). Of QB Cult Magazine's return, Sane
had this to say:
"Close to half a year has passed since
last issue was released. During that time, many things have happened that
I haven't been able to cover in QBCM as I haven't had the time and will
to write a full issue. QBCM's second year has ended, and it's third year
started, about a month ago. QB has advanced some farther, to a place where
games like first person shooters are no longer viewed as impossible to
make."
Darkness
Ethereal
During V Planet's offline time, major
QBRPG developer Darkness Ethereal went offline for a few months.
The programming team responsible for The Secret of Cooey series
and Mysterious Song was working on on a QB library for RPG development
before going offline in February. Part of the Darkness Ethereal site was
un-officially relaunched in April 20 with DE programmer Darkdread thanking
Tek
for providing new webspace for the DE website.
GBGames
Shortly after V Planet revealed it's backup
status, GBGames webmaster Gianfranco received an e-mail from
their hosting service, with similar, destructive news:
"What happened: My site has been down
for the past two days at least, and I couldn't log in to my account to
find out what is wrong. Today I went and found that my site was up, but
there was a placeholder for my site. I couldn't log in still.
"I found a few emails in my mailbox,
and one had an explanation for it:
"Unfortunately, a severe script and
operating system abuse has happened on our UNIX73 server system. While
performing nightly backups, a operating system failure followed by massive
abouse of a customer's scripts caused the server's hard disk as well as
the backup drive to corrupt. During this process, the hard drives have
been destroyed including all files and data. This is especially unfortunate
since the backup hard drive was destroyed as well in this process which
has kept all old and recent backup copies. At this point, we must regretfully
declare all data as lost.
"So there you have it. GBGames, for
the moment, has only this webpage listed. When I get a chance, I will try
to upload everything that I have backed up..."
Thankfully, as of this update much of the
structured version of the GBGames Review site has been backed up by Gianfranco
and uploaded. The site being rebuilt in progress can be viewed by clicking
here.
