Details here.
Before V Planet, the only prominent game review site on the Internet was Pete's QBasic Site, which not only reviewed QB games, but also reviewed QB utilities. At the time V Planet was created, neither former Editor QBShire or myself knew that such a wonderful review site existed. We only knew that there were too many QB news sites on the Internet, and too few QB sites dedicated to saluting QB games. But two years later, the problem has reversed. While game sites continue to succeed, QB news sites are rapidly disappearing or "freezing" in place. In fact, with QBasicnews.com serving as the only remaining hub for frequent QB news on the Internet, there are clear signs of deteriation in terms of QB news. And that can be devastating because QB news sites are the only real window where all QB programmers can talk about their latest projects. Without knowledge of these projects, there is no communication between gamers and programmers. And without that, there simply can not be a QB community. In order to continue the flow of QB news to eager gamers and programmers (ourselves included), we've decided to make the switch from weekly updates to "somewhat daily" updates. I say "somewhat daily" because from now on V Planet will update whenever a new article, game review, or game guide is written (instead of waiting for a pre-set number of articles and game reviews to "clump up" in our archives section). Also, remember that V Planet was once an "updates weekly" website when actually we've had updates ranging from 3 to as many as 15 days between each other. So what do all these crazy changes mean for you? Whether you like V Planet because of our game reviews or our QB news, you'll love this change to the new daily format. If there happens to be a lot of QB news on the Internet, V Planet will be able to respond accordingly. And if there's a game that we've been itching to review (Shadow Legend 2, Secret of Cooey 3, and many, many others come to mind), we can concentrate our efforts there. That means in the long-run you'll get a lot more content, a LOT more game previews if you're into those, and we'll be able to reach to more QB games and programmers than ever before. Of course, this change to greater responsibility does have it's setback. At the exchange of faster service and more content, V Planet needs to be commited more than ever to providing QB coverage. But that's a small price to pay to keep the QB community going strong. Vance Velez Editor, V Planet! QuickBasic Magazine |
