List Ironed Out for August
(8/27/2001) The QB Site Report makes
a return this August, with three of our QB Affiliates hoisted out and two
new Affiliates added in.
Berzniz's QBRPG scene is one of the few websites with an active RPG
release list.
Sometimes it's hard to let go of a dead
link because of the nostalgia the link carried. In this month's site report
we finally laid to rest three QB websites that used to flourish with life
and serve as a series of prominent voices during the earlier years of QB
on the Internet. This isn't to say that these webmasters disappeared altogether;
that couldn't be further from the truth.
The
QBRPG Scene
Initially a site recognizing only the
best in technical achievement for QBRPG and QBRPG demos, The QBRPG Scene
has grown into a site that covers the best of the past and present when
it comes to the role-playing game genre. Features in this new QB Affiliate
include a RPG release list, an exploration of the five greatest QBRPG or
QBRPG demos of all time, and an upcoming forum and links section.
Antz
Entertainment
Unlike The QBRPG Scene, our second new
QB Affiliate is here for more obvious reasons. Antz Entertainment
is the main website of the newest game reviewer to join the V Planet team,
Antz.
But Antz is also a QB coder working on the game Tank Wars: Gold Edition.
QB websites that update often about their projects are few and far between,
and that makes this site a respectable must-see.
QB
on Acid
The always entertaining and insightful
publication written by 2001 Gaming Gold Legend Nekrophidius was
removed from our Affiliate list again after being re-released in December
2000, releasing a couple of new issues, and then disappearing altogether.
The publication is famous for it's straight-to-the-gut, hardball attitude
regarding the highlights and the lowlights of the QB community. As Nekrophidius
is currently in charge of the "code, music, and general ass-kicking" of
the multi-lingual programming team Darkness Ethereal, the question
of whether QB on Acid will return on the Internet for a second time is
uncertain. Should the publication return (in new issues or in archived
form), V Planet will immediately include QB on Acid in the list of Affiliates
again. Or suffer the consequences.
Master
Creating
In a similar situation, Master Creating
is taken out of the Affiliate list on a temporarily and conditional basis.
The programming team, popular for it's games made in QBasic and in the
new and more Windows-friendly Blitz Basic, recently closed the QBasic section
of it's site for reconstruction purposes while putting up a new consulting
section promoting their latest products. Affiliate status will be restored
for Master Creating after the QBasic section is reopened.
Programming Oasis
Actually, the Programming Oasis (formerly
known as Nightwolf Productions) retired months ago. But V Planet
was very vocal in supporting this tutorial and download site for multiple
gaming languages, which also served as the favorite site and inspiration
to make V Planet in the first place. A lot has happened since then and
eventually Programming Oasis disappeared. Minaus Israel, the webmaster
of the Programming Oasis, was working on a new and improved version of
the programming site and mysteriously disappeared altogether. Should Minaus
choose to make a new QB-related programming site, the Programming Oasis
(or whatever new name Minaus prefers) will be added to the Affiliate list.
