Around the World
(TMB Productions)

"Platform action pits the wolf versus the planet"
At last! After many
years of taxidriving you've finally received your first assignment as an
explorer. The President of the World Museum is searching for someone wily
and debonair to find four of the world's most precious treasures to add
to the museum exhibit. And you, dear wolf, will be the person to do it.
Stock up on your pistols,
shriukens, fireballs, and knives! It's going to be a jungle out there as
you travel through four incredible levels, including a jungle, the ruins
of Anceint Greece, the streets of New York, and the heart of China! Watch
out for cops, gladiators, and bears. Do whatever it takes to find those
treasures and make the museum proud.
Graphics (n.)
The use of animation and visual effects to stimulate the senses |
vvv
(Good) |
Eight way-scrolling, triple layer backgrounds,
these are terms you aren't supposed to hear in QB. Minutely glitchly though,
and the animation seems to simple even for a cartoon. |
Sound/Music (n.)
The smooth blend of atmospheric sounds and original harmonies |
vvvv
(Very
Good) |
The music and sound effects blend very
well with the game in Around the World. There are plenty of different tunes
to keep you happy. It's the sound effects that draw the game back from
a Perfect Sound/Music score, as the "See Ya" catch phrase gets old and
some of the sounds come straight from Sonic. |
Gameplay (n.)The precision of control
and involvement of character within its universe |
vv
(Average) |
Average. The game could have used some
power-ups and the enemies could have done a little bit more than walk back
and forth, but the game is a solid platformer with secret rooms, weapons,
and pitfalls abound. |
Story (n.)
The creativity and presentation of the game's critical plot |
vvv
(Good) |
An intro demo sequence and an ending too!
TMB does a nice job putting gamers into the story from the get-go. |
Replay Value (n.)
The timelessness of the gamer's delight, such that the experience
can be repeated again and again |
vvv
(Good) |
Instead of trying to be the next Wetspot,
Around the World is more comparable to PC and console platforms like Jazz
Jackrabbit, Bubsy, and Kid Chameleon. And that's a tried and true formula
that guarantees solid replay value. |
Challenge (v.)
To strike the mental nerve in such a way as to stimulate human thought
and reflexes |
v
(Poor) |
This game needs some bosses! A lot of
the game's layout is jumping to the right, with occasional jumping over
the hole to the right. |
Fun Factor (n.)
The overall entertainment value as maintained throughout the adventure |
vvv
(Good) |
Around the World is buggy. I mean, real
buggy. I've fallen off a cliff and lost four lives, and other times I fly
back up from the hole and go back on the platform. Then there's the funny
hit detection. Still, I had a lot of fun learning the wolf's moves. A very
good game that falls just a heartbeat away from great. |
