V Planet (vplanet.cjb.net)
The first 100% QuickBasic game Review magazine

QBShire's Last Editorial

(12/10/2000) No, you didn't read that wrong. QBShire's switching from V Planet Editor to full-time V Planet game reviewer! Here's the concession speech.

Hello QB Gamers, QBShire again. The headline of the article doesn't lie. As of this V Planet update, I'm officially stepping down from being the current V Planet! Editor, so that I can instead work full-time on writing V Planet game reviews and also return to something I haven't really tried for a while: QB game programming. To make sure that no one has a queasy feeling from this move, it's only fair to explain why I'm choosing to do this, who's going to replace me, and what my decision will cause for V Planet! QuickBasic Magazine.

First of all, there comes a time when you have to do what is right for your country. The same applies to this website. While being Editor has certainly been a rush for me, the last year since the launch of V Planet has been very proliferate for QB games. It has now come to the point where the QB games are launched faster than V Planet can currently review them. More people are needed in the department of V Planet which matters most: the game reviewing section. As hard as everyone at V Planet has tried, there are so many great games out there that still have not reviewed by our staff. Among them still include Arrakis, which is said by many to be the greatest QB strategy game of all time. I can also think of the Peanut Patrol series, the rest of the "Adult" titles by Bulma Produktions, and a pile of killer QBRPGs that have yet to be played through and reviewed. Now that the Holiday break is here, there will be an excellent opportunity for V Planet to do some catching up. Having the most knowledge of the strict rating system that V Planet! uses, it is my obligation to put up my sleeves and handle some of the game reviewing dirty work that I've honestly come to love. QB game reviewing is the best part of working at V Planet, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

However, in devoting full-time to V Planet! game reviews, I have to step down in the tremendous responsibility of being V Planet! Editor. This means that a new person will have to appointed. In applying the merit system, I have chosen current Managing Editor Vance Velez to be the new V Planet! QuickBasic Magazine Editor, as of this update. This is the absolute best decision to make at this time. Vance has been the only other person beside me who has worked on V Planet! since it's launch back in September 1999. Many of the updates that were made during V Planet's run would not be possible without his capacity to work hard and essentially be an occasional glutton for pain. He already does a lot of the dirty work around the house, so the transition should be very clean.

As for V Planet itself, expect the same quality reviews, game guides, and articles that have become a staple of V Planet! QuickBasic Magazine here on out. Remember, I'll still be working at V Planet full time, it's just that I have a slightly different role. Other than that, V Planet will continue to update... we'll probably get back to speed too with AlienQB, Jeremy Hammond, Vance, and myself writing articles and game reviews.  Besides, if Vance screws up the site, I won't hesitate to exercise my right to whap him on the head and return as V Planet! Editor. After all, there comes a time when you have to do what is right for your country. The same applies to this website =)

QB forever!
