QB: The Magazine Archives Are Back

(4/19/2000) The archives of one of the best Quickbasic magazines ever is back thanks to an unexpected ally.

V Planet! was not around in 1998. These guys were.

While checking out the Open Forum shared by Lost socK software and Abyssware Studios, we noticed a curious little post by Zkman, titled "QB: Tm". At first we speculated that qb:tm and Razor Diskmag have joined forces to creative the ultimate QB downloadable magazine, but alas, there was no such luck.

We were pleasantly surprised when, upon opening the board note, that the QBasic: The Magazine archives have been uploaded again! These precious documents recall all the wonderful things that have been happening in QuickBasic during the 1998-1999 years, before V Planet was launched. Our original hope was to make qbasic: the magazine one of our first affiliates, but just a month before our launch in September 1999, qbasic: the magazine closed due to QB:tm editor zkman's busy schedule.

Since then, the QB: Tm archives suffered last February, when the magazine's host Dark Elf Productions was temporarily shut down due to financial problems. When Dark Elf Productions was re-launched two months later, the QB:tm archives were nowhere to be found. We feared that perhaps the QB: Tm archives were a later priority for Dark Elf Productions after its own site regained all its original features, or even that the QB: tm archives were discontinued.

But upon reading the forum note, it was discovered that this excellent QB magazine archive had been zipped up and re-launched with the help of Tek, from Neozones Productions! This comes as a major surprise to V Planet! since Neozones Productions has been so busy moving around their site to the new domain at tekscode.com, all while having to worry about managing their gaming event, the Qlympics. What a truly altruistic act is was for Neozones Productions to lend a hand to zkman to help get the archives back up!

The new location for the QB:tm archives is at http://qbtm.tekscode.com. All the good old issues are there, with the tutorials and game reviews that are still as applicable as it is fun to read. And while QB:tm hasn't updated since the summer of 1999, the QB:tm archives is probably the best time capsule among the world of retired QB sites and magazines.
