The first 100% QuickBasic game Review magazine Future Software Buys QBasicNews.com (4/19/2001) In a most unexpected move, Future Software purchases the domain name QBasicNews.com, bringing together two major news sites for QB.
For months, Future Software and QBasicNews.com have been in a silent rivalry of sorts, representing the two most frequently updated QB news sites on the Internet. But this rivalry came to a halt when Armageddon Games, the group that hosted both Future Software and QBasicNews.com, went out of business. After much negotiations both sites were given one more week of uptime before they had to be taken down. At that point, the silent rivalry developed into a friendship, and an aggressive struggle to find a way to maintain both Future Software and QBasicNews.com. Future Software managed to keep afloat through a paid server change to site5.com. Magus, the webmaster of QBasicNews.com, was not as lucky. As a week passed without success of finding a server, QBasicNews.com was forced to shut down. For a while it seemed like QBasicNews would be gone forever, until Future Software webmaster Jorden Chamid made a surprise announcement at Future Software, declaring that he had purchased Qbasicnews.com from Magus and he has become the new owner of QBasicnews.com! The site has been relaunched since then, and with Jorden as owner and Magus watching over it's construction, it looks like QBasicNews.com will be back and better than ever. It still remains to be seen how Future Software and QBasicNews.com will handle the distribution of QB news. While both sites offer lots of QB news coverage right now, Future Software's site appears to have a slight emphasis on internal news within Future Software itself and downloads within it's files, while still providing news about the QB community. QBasicNews.com maintains itself as a general QB news source, with some QB tutorials for programmers. Article written by QBShire |
